RISE for Autism was founded in 2011 by a Mom who was inspired by her son with Autism, to make a difference in the lives of individuals with Autism in our community.
Cheryl Antlitz, Founder/Executive Director's Story:
"Fourteen years ago, I was blessed with an amazing son. As an excited new mom, we attended play dates, gym class, etc. however, over time I noticed that my son was not doing the same things as other children. He was not responding to his name and he played alone spinning tires on a matchbox car while the other children played together. At 12-months, life started to change and by 18-months, my son was diagnosed with Autism. It was the first day of our journey on the unknown seas. I soon became an advocate and my son's biggest fan. To this day, thirteen years later, I am still attending conferences and learning new strategies however, my son has been my greatest teacher."
As my son entered into his teen years, I soon realized there was a gap in services for individuals ages 13-21. As a parent and President of RISE, I started to review the current programs available for teenagers with autism and it became more apparent that there was a lack of services for this age group. After meeting with other community members and the Board of Directors, it was clear that our data was correct in illustrating the current needs of our community. Based on our results, this need soon became the focus of RISE.
Cheryl and her inspiration.
